2026 World Cup: a historic mundial
The 2026 Football World Cup is the biggest tournament in our history. The tournament is being held from June 11 to July 19 in the USA, Canada, and Mexico. For the first time, 48 national teams are participating in the competition, and a total of 104 matches will be played. For Uzbekistan, this is a historic event — our national team has headed to the World Cup for the first time.
2026 World Cup format: what has changed?
The 2026 World Cup differs fundamentally from previous mundials in terms of format. Instead of 32, 48 teams are participating, divided into 12 groups (from A to L). There are 4 teams in each group.
Conditions for reaching the play-offs
The top 2 teams from each group go directly to the round of 16. In addition, the 8 best teams among those that finished in third place will also advance to the play-offs. This means that finishing third in the group still offers hope — an important opportunity for Uzbekistan.
2026 World Cup Uzbekistan: opponents in Group K
The 2026 World Cup is of special importance for Uzbekistan — according to the draw results, our national team was placed in Group K. The team is coached by the legendary Italian defender and 2006 World Cup champion, Fabio Cannavaro. Our opponents are:
- Portugal — 2016 European champion, 5th place in the FIFA ranking. For Cristiano Ronaldo, this is his sixth mundial;
- Colombia — 13th place in the FIFA ranking, best result — 2014 quarter-final;
- DR Congo — 45th place in the FIFA ranking, one of the strong teams in Africa.

What are Uzbekistan's chances?
Portugal is considered the clear favorite of the group. The main struggle for second and third place will be between Uzbekistan, Colombia, and DR Congo. Due to the new format, third place also provides an opportunity for the play-offs, so the first match against Colombia on June 18 could be of decisive importance.
The 2026 World Cup marks the beginning of a new era for Uzbekistan football. 🤍 Go, Uzbekistan! May victories be with you!
