Why is it important to check the fallopian tubes?

❓ Why is it important to check the fallopian tubes?

Many couples focus only on hormonal tests when pregnancy does not occur. However, sometimes the problem may be specifically related to the fallopian tubes.

If the tubes are blocked or damaged, the fertilized egg cannot reach the uterus, and natural pregnancy becomes difficult.

⚠️ In which cases is it recommended to check the fallopian tubes?

  • If pregnancy has not occurred for a long time.
  • If there has been a previous ectopic pregnancy.
  • If there have been inflammatory processes or infections in the pelvic organs.
  • If surgery has been performed on the uterus or abdominal cavity.

How are the fallopian tubes checked?

The most common method for determining the patency of the fallopian tubes is hysterosalpingography (HSG). In this procedure, a special contrast agent is injected through the cervix, and then an X-ray image is used to determine whether the agent is passing freely through the tubes or if there is an obstruction somewhere. As an alternative method, contrast-enhanced hysterosalpingosonography (based on ultrasound) or, in more complex cases, laparoscopy can also be used. The examination is usually performed in the days following the end of menstruation, before ovulation.

If the fallopian tubes are blocked, this not only reduces the likelihood of natural pregnancy but can also increase the risk of an ectopic pregnancy.

Is it possible to treat blocked tubes?

Depending on the cause, treatment is carried out either conservatively (anti-inflammatory therapy) or surgically — usually via laparoscopy. During laparoscopy, adhesions in the tubes are separated, and an attempt is made to restore patency. However, since each case is individual, in some severe cases, an EKO program may be recommended directly instead of attempting to repair the tubes.

✅ Early examination allows for timely identification of the problem, accurate diagnosis, and the start of effective treatment.
