🔬 Mikro-TESE — ONE OF THE IMPORTANT POSSIBILITIES IN AZOOSPERMIA
Azoospermia is a condition where spermatozoa are not detected in the ejaculate. However, this does not always mean that there are no spermatozoa in the testicles at all.
What are the types of azoospermia?
Azoospermia is divided into two main types:
- Obstructive azoospermia — spermatozoa are produced in the testicles, but due to a blockage in the seminal ducts, they cannot reach the ejaculate;
- Non-obstructive azoospermia — the sperm-producing function of the testicles is impaired, but sperm production may still continue in individual parts of the testicular tissue.
Mikro-TESE is considered the most promising method specifically in cases of non-obstructive azoospermia.
🧬 How is Mikro-TESE performed?
Mikro-TESE is a surgical method aimed at identifying and retrieving areas where spermatozoa may be present in the testicular tissue using a special microscope. Unlike traditional TESE, the microscope is used to precisely select the most "active" parts of the testicular tissue — that is, the parts with a high probability of sperm production — which increases the chance of finding spermatozoa and minimizes damage to the testicular tissue.
The retrieved spermatozoa can be used in the IVF/ICSI process.
What does the success of Mikro-TESE depend on?
The probability of finding viable spermatozoa depends on the type and cause of azoospermia, as well as the patient's individual characteristics. For this reason, a complete hormonal and genetic examination before the operation allows for a more accurate assessment of the prognosis.
🤍 Azoospermia is not a final verdict
The most important thing is to determine the cause of azoospermia and choose a treatment strategy suitable for the patient's condition. Azoospermia is not a final verdict. A correct diagnosis and an individual approach are important.
